‘Moonie’ is the name used by an artist whose paintings appeared on walls and in doorways around the Little Germany commercial area of Bradford during 2015-16.
Moonie, who described himself as a ‘situational visual artist’, was commissioned and funded by Little Germany Action ltd, supported by a grant from a local Rotary Club, to enliven the area and encourage more business and tourists into the district.
The paintings include a take on the song ‘Stairway to Heaven’, Samson unchained, Mr Bean confronting a dinosaur, and a cartoon character, when viewed from a distance, apparently standing on a litter bin.
Moonie was quoted by the Asian Express, February 2016, as saying:
Little Germany is my canvas – and what a canvas. I like to see a space and create a work of art for that space. I wouldn’t want to restrict myself to one form of art. I have ideas for more three dimensional works which I hope to fulfil in the coming year, so watch this space.
