SMITH, Tim photographer

 

Tim Smith is a professional photographer, writer and researcher, and a Bradford resident.

Although he has a wide portfolio of experience across the commercial and public sectors, Tim has a distinguished record of recording the social and cultural transitions of minority communities as they adjust to their new lives in Britain.

The mines of the Welsh Valleys were the main source of coal exported to Aden, which was part of the British Empire until its independence in 1967, and which became a huge bunkering station used to fuel British ships sailing to Bombay and beyond.

Tim has exhibited his work widely across the UK and overseas.  These include exhibitions for The Commonwealth Institute, British Council, National Media Museum, Industrial Museum, and Cartwright Hall in Bradford, Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate, Piece Hall, Halifax, British Film Institute, Sheffield City Museum and other Sheffield galleries.  His work was shown on a national tour to major cities in Pakistan in 1997 and his work is exhibited in the National Art Gallery, Islamabad.

In 2016/17 there was a major touring exhibition of Tim’s work, India’s Gateway: Gujarat, Mumbai & Britain, supported by the Arts Council England, including a showing at the Cartwright Hall, Bradford, between March – July, 2016.
