GODFREY, Joy

The artist, Joy Godfrey (1937-2025) was in born Cheshire, but lived for many years at Ilkley, where she also had a studio. She studied at Bradford Art School, 1973-77, where she became interested in silk screen printing. After  graduating she worked  in a variety of art mediums, including silk screen printing, bronze casting, etching and more recently,  painting in oils and watercolour.

Her work was exhibited at group shows in Yorkshire, including at York City Art Gallery, Dean Clough, Cartwright Hall, Bradford University, and Bradford Industrial Museum; and in London at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.   Joy also had solo shows in Yorkshire, including at Lotherton Hall, Bradford College, and  at The Strid Exhibition Centre, Bolton Abbey.

Joy was also an Artist in residence at A Century of Yorkshire Landscape, The Manor House Art Gallery and Museum, Ilkley  in 1993, and  was a regular exhibitor on the Ilkley Art Trail.  Her work was sold by Saatchi Art, and from her own studio in Back Nelson Road, Ilkley.  A portfolio of her work can be viewed via the website link below.
