WHITMORE, Charlotte

Charlotte Whitmore grew up in Bingley, attending Bingley Grammar school before going on to study jewellery design at Bradford Art College. This was followed by a degree in 3D Design and Silversmithing at Sheffield Hallam University in the early 90’s. She then went to teach design at a progressive school in London for several years where she was able to take courses in blacksmithing and welded steel sculpture.

In 2014 she moved back to Bradford with her family and has been running her own jewellery business, making contemporary mixed media jewellery from her workshop in Bingley. She also works as a jewellery tutor at Swarthmore Education Centre in Leeds.

Charlotte’s work is sold through shows and galleries around the country. She works predominantly in silver but likes to incorporate other materials, such as vintage plastic, wood and glass to add colour and texture to her work. Her jewellery is based around botanical design, taking inspiration from the hedgerows, woodland and moorland near to where she lives.

Skeletal Seed Pod Brooches

Sunflower Brooch

Her latest work takes inspiration from skeletal seed pods and flower heads found amongst the autumn hedgerows and on woodland floors, which has led to a series of sculptural pendants and brooches.
