Laura Dawes is a freelance artist, based in Ilkley. Her specialism is 3D video game art, but in recent years Laura has increased her range, using digital painting, ink drawings, gouache, and watercolour, and to develop her interest in pet portraits and landscape art.
Laura studied Physics at the University of Oxford, graduating in 2005 with an honours degree. She taught herself 3D art creation skills and from 2005 to 2017 was employed as an Environment Artist for video games companies, using a wide range of IT skills, along with hard-surface modelling, sculpture, and texturing to build environment and props, including animation and light effects, for a wide range of games. She continues now as a freelance artist, working on commissioned games projects.
In parallel with her 3D skills and freelance work, Laura has begun to build a portfolio of 2D artwork that connects with her interests in animals, particularly dogs, and landscape painting. She has exhibited original paintings at local venues such as the Art Shop in Ilkley, the Solar Gallery in Ilkley Manor House and has demonstrated her painting techniques for several art groups around the district.
