Amy and Ben Bucki are husband and wife professional photographers and artists and the founders in 2009 of ‘Ribbon Art and Photography’, based in the Keighley area. In addition to commissioned commercial photography, they are engaged collobaratively or respectively in photography as an art form or social document and in the creation of sculptural, art and craft projects. They both met whilst studying photography to degree level at the Cumbria Institute of Arts and both graduated in 2007.
Amy originates from West Yorkshire and after graduation was commissioned by the Scouting Association to photograph events for them, including the International Scouting Jamboree in Kent, 2007 . She has an interest in recording social history, which has included the remains of industrial railways in Cumbria and Home Front relics from the Second World War in Carlisle, and leading to exhibitions of her work.
She has experimented with with long exposure/light trails and her work has been displayed in Sheffield, Bradford, and Saltaire. Amy’s work was also selected for inclusion in both the 2015 and 2017 Bradford Open Exhibitions at Cartwright Hall.
Ben was born in the West Midlands. His ‘Britannia Model Village’ project, started as a final year project for his degree course, led to exhibitions in Cumbria, Newcastle and Birmingham. It mixed photography and 3D Sculpture to show in miniature an imaginary dystopian model village tourist attraction, set in a Cumbria, under the rule of a fictional police state, and came complete with a ‘guidebook’ for visitors and associated marketing . The work gained Ben commissions and inspired related project work .
Ben’s transport photography has been published in magazines, and he has exhibited his work at several venues, either as part of collaborative shows or as solo exhibitions, including ‘Ribbon 2’ & ‘Riboon 3’ shows at Shipley, featured work in the Saltaire Arts Trail, ‘Steampunk’ exhibition at the Industrial Museum, Braford in 2011, and Bradford Open in 2017.
