Street documentary photographer, John Bolloten, has lived in Bradford for over 30 years.
Over the last decade, the focus of his freelance work has been on documentary photography and John is well-known for his edgy photographs of Bradford street life. But other projects include photographing artists from the UK punk period in the 1970s and 80s, life in the Shia Muslim community in Bradford, barber shop culture, and the Bradford inner city cricket scene.

Writing for the Bradford Review in 2016 (see link below) he said of the district:
I like Bradford a lot and the city has many positives, especially its down-to-earth people and lack of pretension. I also think the impact of immigration makes it uniquely interesting … As a photographer I never get bored photographing here, but I’m not interested in presenting sanitised images of Bradford.

He has produced two books of photographs: Bradford Street – with 48 black and white images of the Bradford street scene; and Belgrade – with street images taken in Belgrade over a one week period. Details of both books are on the artist’s website, see below. A second book on Bradford street life was in preparation during 2016 and his cricket work was scheduled for publication in April 2016.
John’s photographs have been printed in a range of media, including The Times, Guardian, and Asian Express, plus featured on book, CD and record covers. His first solo exhibition, Bradford Raw, was held in Gallery 2, University of Bradford, from November 2011 to March 2012.
