Joanne Tinker is now an Ilkley-based artist who transforms ordinary objects into 3-D artworks. Joanne uses a wide range of material, including metal bottle tops, acupuncture tubes, confectionery wrappings and aluminium cans, although she says, “chocolate foil wrappings remain a constant in my work”.

Joanne was born, 1969, in Nottingham, but raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. After returning to the UK, Joanne studied Silversmithing and Jewellery at Birmingham University, graduating with a first class honours degree in 1992.
After graduation, Joanne started her own business, working with throwaway and reclaimed materials from a small studio in Harrogate, before moving down to London. She has said of this time:
I slowly built up a reputation as an artist working with recycled materials and my work sold successfully through a variety of galleries and art fairs. My big breakthrough was in 2007 when I started making work you could put on the wall and my goblets piece was accepted by the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition,

Joanne’s artworks have been widely exhibited, including solo and group exhibitions in Britain and overseas, including: The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, London; New York Museum of Art and Design; the White Rabbit Collection, Sydney; Art Miami; Art Toronto; and London Art Fair. In Yorkshire, Joanne’s work has featured in the Ilkley Art Trail, Leeds Craft Centre, Silson Contemporary Gallery, Harrogate, and at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Her work is also on permanent display at the Science Museum and has been featured in articles in The Telegraph, Evening Standard, and Guardian, and lifestyle magazines, such as Vogue, Homes and Property and Living.
Joanne’s artwork has also been exhibited at the Museum of Art & Design, New York and featured in Dennis Potter’s television adaption of his play, ‘Cold Lazarus’ (1996).
