Lynne Dobson, is a freelance artist, art teacher, and local promoter of children’s art.
Lynne studied art, initially at Huddersfield School of Art, then at Birmingham Art College. Throughout her life she has been drawn to art, both for herself and for others:
I have painted and drawn from a very early age as my father was an artist and encouraged me from the age of about four. After bringing up six children and working as an Art teacher I retired in 2016 at 68yrs, thus giving me time to now indulge in my art work. I exhibit at numerous locations, sell quite often and paint for pleasure too.
Her teaching has included work with local primary school children, including leading art clubs. As well as teaching Lynne has taken other initiatives for children. For example, in 2011, she established an art gallery to display the work of local children and young adults in Bradford city centre. This was part of the Fabric initiative in Bradford to promote the arts.

Her own paintings are often influenced by the local landscape (see example above). Interviewed by the Bradford ‘Telegraph and Argus’ in April 2016, Lynne said of her work:
I use acrylics on canvas and occasionally pencil and pen and ink. I work mainly in a semi-abstract style and I love bright colours. I’m drawn to moorland scenes and often paint from photographs taken by friends of mine who are in a Yorkshire photography group. I take my own photos too, or sometimes I’ll paint a scene that’s just come out of my head. I love Yorkshire landscapes, particularly sunsets and wild moorland scenes and heather.
She has had her artwork exhibited around the region, including solo shows at Haworth and at Hebden Bridge Town Hall. Other regional group shows featuring her work include at the Open Gallery, Halifax.
In 2022, Lynne had a painting of a lightning strike exhibited at the Royal Academy (RA) Summer Show in London. The comedian, Joe Lycett, took an active interest in Lynne’s submission and she was featured with him on a television programme he made of the RA selection process and exhibition itself (see photograph below).
Over recent years Lynne has increased her promotional work of the art of local children by writing a regular column in the Bradford ‘Telegraph & Argus’ illustrated with children’s artwork, as well as organising a presentation of their artwork on the Bradford Big Screen, and editing a children’s artwork calendar. She also continues to teach in local schools and tutor individual students in her own home.
