Artist, Ian Hodgson, was born in Withernsea, North Humberside, but spent his formative childhood and student years in Bradford. He studied art at Bradford College and graduated with a first class honours degree in 2000.

After graduating, Ian moved to Brighton, where he now works as a professional artist. Drawing is his main medium, and his work engages with themes of filtered memories, identity and place. He has said of his style:
It ranges between the tight and realistic to the loose and expressive often blurring (literally!) or marrying these extremes together. I think contrasting elements can sit together and reinforce the strengths or sensitivities within each.
He was the winner of the Finest Drawing in the 2013 Royal College of Art National Open, and he has had a solo show at the Cuadros Gallery, Nottingham in 2011. He has also shown work in London at the Signal Gallery in London, the London Art Fair, and at galleries in Nottingham, Brighton, and Hove. In February 2016 the Naked Eye Gallery in Brighton hosted ‘Refrain’, a solo show of Ian’s work.
