The painter and paint-maker, Philip (Pip) Seymour, was born in Bradford in 1962 and lived in the Heaton district of the city. After attending local schools, he completed an Art Foundation course at Bradford College in 1982 then continued his studies at Winchester School of Art, graduating with a BA in Art (Painting) in 1985. This was followed by a post-graduate course in lithography and printmaking at Brighton Polytechnic.

After graduating, Pip worked and was based in London and Italy, working as a painter and art teacher, but moved back to Yorkshire, near Settle, in 2010, to establish a paint-making business with his partner and fellow painter, Rebecca Wallace.  The company, Pip Seymour Fine Art Products (now Wallace Seymour ) make high quality painting and drawing materials, sold through art and craft shops, galleries, and art teachers, across the UK and overseas.

Pip continues to paint in parallel to his paint-making business and his abstract paintings are often inspired by landscape, both in Britain and overseas (see ‘Monti Azzuri’, above).

‘Langdale’

He has exhibited work in London, Italy, Derbyshire, and locally at the South Square gallery, Thornton, Dean Clough galleries in Halifax, and Coles Gallery, Leeds.  A solo show in 2016, ‘Moughton Mysteries’, at the The Old Station Gallery, Rowsley, Derbyshire, was an exploration by Pip of Pennine landscape, in association with two poets, Steve Middleton and Chris Firth. A selection of images from this exhibition are shown below, courtesy of the artist.
