Anji Timlin is a Haworth-based landscape artist and local teacher/tutor.
She was born in Leeds, but has lived in the Bradford district for much of her life. She attended Bingley Grammar School, plus a period of secondary education spent in New Hampshire, USA.
In 1994 Anji completed a Foundation Course in Art and Design at Bradford College School of Art, leading to BA degree studies in Textile Design at Bradford; she graduated in 2001. After Bradford College, she completed a post-graduate teacher training course at the University of Huddersfield, graduating 2003.
Anji worked as a lecturer at Bradford College School of Art, initially on the Access to Art course, then became the co-ordinator of the Art A-Level subjects offered by the College – Fine Art, Graphic Design, Photography, Textiles, and Art History – including overall responsibility for tutorials, pastoral support and contextual and theoretical studies. She also taught modules on National Diploma Fashion and Textiles and Fine Art courses.
Anji has worked, and continues to work, as a teaching assistant in local schools, including working with pupils with special educational and health needs.
In addition to teaching, Anji’s past creative work has included floral design and as a freelance knitted and embellished textile designer. The latter included work for a London agency, creating knitted samples for trade fairs, including Premiere Vision in Paris. The British Wool Marketing Board also employed Anji to knit samples of their yarns for trade fairs, brochures and publicity materials.

In relation to painting, Anji works with acrylic and gouache in an expressionistic style. She says of her artwork:
I work in Haworth and paint joyous local landscapes to try to communicate something about this place I love. I’m looking for ways and means to make art that resonates with others. I’d like to show the depth and magic of this area through the landscape that has inspired so many artists and writers, but has also sustained and nurtured it’s people through the industrial revolution and out of the other side.

In 2019 Anji was awarded the Joan Day Painting Prize and held a solo exhibition of paintings at South Square
Arts Centre in Thornton, Bradford. She has also worked as a tutor at South Square before and during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020, and throughout the isolation period ran a weekly sketch group online: the ‘South Square Sketchers’. She is a member of Yorkshire Art, where examples of her artwork are displayed and sold.
